PDP Adopts Aondoakaa as Consensus Candidate for Benue 2027 Governorship Race
Former Minister of Justice and Attorney‑General of the Federation, Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa, SAN, has been adopted as the consensus governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The decision followed a rigorous three‑week consultation and screening exercise involving party elders, stakeholders, and all 11 aspirants under the PDP platform. Key figures in the process included former Governor Samuel Ortom, Senate Minority Leader Patrick Abba Moro, the State Working Committee led by Rt. Hon. Ezekiel Adaji, as well as influential blocs such as the G‑14 and G‑9 elders’ groups.
At the conclusion of the exercise, Aondoakaa emerged as the consensus choice, with all other aspirants aligning with the outcome in what party leaders described as a disciplined and unified decision. While some aspirants expressed reservations about zoning, they nonetheless pledged loyalty to the party’s direction.
Notable aspirants such as Prof. Dennis Ityavyar, Rt. Hon. Dominic Ucha, Prof. Sebastine Hon, SAN, Revd. Tor Uja, Dr. Tersoo Loko, and Engr. Tor Tiv Ato were among those who accepted the consensus arrangement.
Commending the process, Chief Ortom lauded the aspirants for demonstrating political maturity, urging unity in the quest to unseat the incumbent administration. Senator Abba Moro described the consensus as a difficult but necessary step to strengthen the PDP’s electoral chances.
In his acceptance remarks, Aondoakaa pledged to consolidate party unity and mobilise stakeholders into a formidable force ahead of the polls. He assured members that the PDP would be repositioned for victory in 2027, stressing his commitment to delivering the mandate of the Benue people.
Party leadership emphasised that the consensus arrangement was designed to reduce internal divisions and enhance competitiveness in the forthcoming elections.
