LemFi, a prominent financial platform facilitating cross-border transactions for individuals working and residing internationally, has announced a strategic partnership with BVNK, an enterprise-grade stablecoin payments infrastructure provider. This collaboration aims to fundamentally reshape the operational framework of the diaspora economy by migrating LemFi’s cross-border settlement processes onto BVNK’s regulated stablecoin payment infrastructure. The initiative promises near-instantaneous value transfers between markets at significantly reduced costs, all while maintaining a seamless user experience within the LemFi application.
This development is particularly pertinent for the estimated two million individuals who depend on LemFi for remittances between markets in the UK, Europe, Australia, and North America, and their beneficiaries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The persistent challenge in international payments has historically been the reliance on slow and costly correspondent banking and SWIFT chains. LemFi’s strategic pivot leverages BVNK’s infrastructure to bypass these legacy systems, routing settlements via regulated stablecoin rails and subsequently disbursing funds in local currencies at the destination.
The economic implications of this partnership are substantial, especially for the communities LemFi serves. Global remittance costs, averaging 6.36% in Q3 2025 according to World Bank data, far exceed the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal target of 3% by 2030. Achieving this target could redirect approximately US$20 billion annually to families worldwide. By enabling faster and cheaper settlement, LemFi and BVNK are directly addressing this critical gap.
This move aligns with a broader industry trend of stablecoins transitioning from niche cryptocurrency applications to mainstream payment infrastructure. Real-world stablecoin payment volumes have reached US$7.4 trillion over the past twelve months, with projections indicating a rise from approximately 3% to as much as 20% of the cross-border payments market within the next decade. This partnership operationalises LemFi’s stablecoin settlement strategy, which was bolstered by a strategic investment from Tether in May 2026 to support stablecoin-driven remittances in emerging markets.
Ridwan Olalere, co-founder and CEO of LemFi, articulated the vision: “The money that crosses borders still moves on rails built decades ago— slow, expensive, and quietly taxing the people who can least afford it. We’re rebuilding those rails. Stablecoins let us settle near instantly and take out cost; BVNK gives us the infrastructure to do it safely and at scale. It’s the start of something bigger that the financial system and the diaspora economy should have had all along.”
Crucially, the technological upgrade remains invisible to end-users. Customers will continue to transact in their local currencies without direct interaction with stablecoins or cryptocurrency balances. This approach ensures that the efficiency gains of stablecoins are realised without compromising the trust, simplicity, and compliance that LemFi’s user base relies upon. BVNK’s compliance-first, enterprise-grade platform, boasting over 25 licences and regulatory approvals across key jurisdictions including the UK, Europe, and the US, underpins this commitment to trust and security.
Chris Harmse, co-founder and Chief Business Officer at BVNK, commented, “Stablecoins are becoming the base layer for how the world moves money, and remittances are one of the clearest places that shift changes lives. LemFi has built deep trust with the communities it serves across Africa, Asia and beyond. Powering their settlement with our infrastructure means faster, cheaper transfers reach real families — exactly the kind of impact we built BVNK to deliver.”
This partnership marks a significant step in LemFi’s expansion from a remittance specialist into a comprehensive financial platform for globally mobile communities, encompassing payments, credit, savings, and connectivity. It builds upon recent momentum, including LemFi’s establishment of its global headquarters in London, supported by a £100 million UK investment commitment, and an expanding regulatory footprint across major global markets. Stablecoin settlement will be progressively rolled out across LemFi’s corridors and product suite, contingent on local central bank and regulatory frameworks.
