Federal High Court Dismisses Sowore’s No‑Case Submission in Cyberbullying Charge Against Tinubu
Justice Mohammed Garba Umar of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has dismissed the no‑case submission filed by activist Omoyele Sowore in the cyberbullying case instituted against him by the Department of State Services (DSS).
The DSS had charged Sowore with cyberbullying President Bola Tinubu, alleging that he referred to the President as a “criminal” on his Twitter handle.
In his ruling delivered on Friday, Justice Umar held that the prosecution had successfully established a prima facie case linking Sowore to the alleged offences. The court therefore ordered the defendant to enter his defence.
Sowore, through his application, had urged the court to discharge and acquit him of the two‑count charge. However, Justice Umar ruled that the evidence presented by the DSS was sufficient at this stage to warrant a full defence, stressing that the matter could not be terminated prematurely.
