Council of Legal Education Warns Against Unaccredited Law Admissions, Publishes Approved LL.B Universities List

The Council of Legal Education (CLE) has warned universities against admitting students into the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme without accreditation and approval from the Council, stressing that only accredited universities are authorised to offer admission into the programme in Nigeria.

In a notice directed at the general public, prospective students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders, the Council stated that any university that admits students into a Law programme without its approval would be acting contrary to the regulations governing legal education in Nigeria and would be liable to appropriate sanctions under extant regulations and policies.

The Council further cautioned prospective law students that those admitted into Law programmes in universities not accredited by the CLE will not be eligible for admission into the Nigerian Law School. It consequently advised members of the public to consult the official list of universities approved by the Council to admit students into the LL.B programme before seeking admission. The Council said the list of approved universities is being published to guide prospective students and other stakeholders.

“The Council of Legal Education hereby informs the general public, prospective students. parents, guardians, and other stakeholders that only universities accredited by the Council of Legal Education are authorised to admit students into the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme in Nigeria.

“The public is further informed that any university that admits students into a Law programme without the approval of the Council of Legal Education is acting contrary to the provisions regulating legal education in Nigeria and will be subiect to appropriate sanctions in accordance with extant regulations and policy..

“Furthermore, students admitted into Law programmes in universities that are not accredited by the Council of Legal Education will not be eligible for admission into the Nigerian Law School.

For the guidance of the public, the Council of Legal Education hereby publishes official list of universities approved to admit students into the LL.B programme Nigeria qas set out below:
