Edo South: Court to Deliver Judgment on Edo South Senatorial Candidate Dispute November 26
A Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed November 26 to deliver judgment in a suit challenging the emergence of the Nigeria Democratic Congress candidate for the Edo South Senatorial District in the 2027 general election.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik fixed the date after lawyers in the case adopted their final arguments.
The suit was filed by former lawmaker Hon. Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, who is challenging the outcome of the NDC senatorial primary and the subsequent emergence of Mrs Osayuki Asemota or Sunday Aguebor as the party’s candidate.
Agbonayinma claims he secured the highest number of lawful votes at the primary but was unlawfully substituted.
He is asking the court to nullify the declaration of Asemota or Aguebor as winner of the Edo South senatorial ticket.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, the NDC, Asemota and Aguebor are listed as the first to fourth defendants in the suit.
Counsel to the plaintiff, Ayuba Antivas, appeared in court during the adoption of final arguments.
The court is expected to determine the validity of the disputed primary and the party’s choice of candidate when judgment is delivered on November 26.
