Council of Legal Education Withdraws Ethics Prize Over Inappropriate Photograph
The Council of Legal Education (CLE) of the Nigerian Law School has withdrawn the prize for the best graduating student in professional ethics from its recipient, following the circulation of an “inappropriate” photograph online.
Aderonke Osho, secretary to the council and director of administration, announced the decision, saying the council reached its conclusion after reviewing the circumstances surrounding the award.
Osho said the attire worn by the recipient in the circulated photograph was considered inconsistent with professional standards and decorum, and that the council approved the withdrawal on that basis.
The council also approved sanctions against two other students found culpable of indiscipline-related misconduct, reaffirming its responsibility to uphold standards of discipline and professional conduct among Nigerian Law School students.
While the council did not name the specific graduating set or identify the affected student, reports indicate the prize belonged to Ogechi Ifezie, named the 2026 best graduating student for professional ethics.
Ifezie was honoured among other award recipients during the 2026 call to bar ceremonies, held from July 7 to 10 at the Body of Benchers Complex in Abuja.
