US Former President, Trump pleads not guilty to federal charges after arrest

Former United States President Donald Trump has pleaded not guilty in a federal court in Miami, Florida to 37 criminal counts, including 31 counts of willful retention of national defense information at his Florida Mar-a-Lago resort.

Trump spent about 50 minutes in the court and was released under instructions to not speak to potential witnesses.

The former president, the leading Republican candidate in the 2024 US presidential election, has described the indictment as “the most evil and heinous abuse of power” while speaking to supporters Tuesday night at his Bedminster resort in New Jersey.

Trump, who is the first former US president to face federal charges, was arrested and booked alongside aide and co-defendant, Walt Nauta, who did not enter a plea deal. The judge ruled that Trump could not communicate with Nauta about the case.
