INEC Declares Ademola Adeleke Winner of Governorship Poll in Osun
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared the Accord Party’s gubernatorial candidate and incumbent Governor of Osun State, Southwest Nigeria, Senator Ademola Adeleke, as the winner of the state’s governorship election.
The announcement was made by the Returning Officer, Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye‑Ekiti (FUOYE), following the collation of results from all 30 local government areas of the state.
According to Professor Ogunwole, a total of 1,005,800 votes were cast in the election, with 985,079 deemed valid. He further disclosed that 1,010,684 voters were accredited for the poll.
INEC declared that Governor Adeleke secured 511,067 votes, defeating his closest rival, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 444,815 votes. Najeem Salaan of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came third with 17,180 votes.
Governor Adeleke’s victory is notable as he contested under the Accord Party, having defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in December, despite winning his first term on the PDP platform.
