Federal High Court Dismisses Suit Against Victor Umeh, Affirms NDC Nomination for Anambra Central

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has dismissed a suit filed by Chidi Okoye challenging the nomination of Senator Victor Umeh as the candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Anambra Central Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 National Assembly election.

Delivering judgment on Wednesday, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik held that the dispute arising from the party’s primary election conducted on 29 May 2026 was an internal affair of the political party and therefore not justiciable by the court.

The suit sought to contest the validity of Senator Umeh’s emergence as the NDC flag bearer for Anambra Central. However, the court ruled that the claimant failed to establish sufficient grounds for judicial interference in the party’s internal processes.

Justice Abdulmalik further upheld the nomination of Senator Umeh, affirming him as the duly elected NDC candidate for the Anambra Central Senatorial District. The court stated that its decision was based on the preponderance of evidence presented before it.
