Cybercrime: Court Sends Sanusi Dankaka to Kuje Prison Over Alleged Facebook Threats To Release Kano Governor’s Nude Videos and Photographs
A Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday ordered the remand of Sanusi Dankaka at the Kuje Correctional Centre over allegations that he threatened to release nude videos and photographs of Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf on Facebook.
Justice Salim Ibrahim issued the order after Dankaka was arraigned by the State Security Service (SSS) on a two-count charge bordering on alleged cybercrime offences. The defendant pleaded not guilty to both charges.
The case, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/699/2026, was filed on October 22 by the SSS through its prosecutor, Yusuf Afegbua. The charges relate to alleged offences said to have occurred in October 2026.
In the first count, the prosecution alleged that Dankaka and other individuals who are still at large used his Facebook account, identified as Sanusi Dankaka Yahaya, to publish malicious content while in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to the charge, Dankaka allegedly claimed that he possessed nude videos and photographs of Governor Yusuf and threatened to make them public.
The SSS maintained that the alleged conduct violated Section 27(1)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, as amended, and was punishable under Section 24(1) of the same legislation.
In the second count, Dankaka and the other alleged accomplices were accused of circulating similar claims on Facebook, allegedly threatening to release the purported images and videos to the public.
The prosecution further alleged that Dankaka knew the information he published was false but shared it with the intention of causing annoyance, inconvenience, insult and harm to the governor’s reputation.
The SSS said the alleged conduct also constituted an offence under Section 24(1) of the Cybercrimes Act, as amended.
When the case came up on Monday, prosecutor Afegbua informed the court that the matter was scheduled for Dankaka’s arraignment and confirmed that the prosecution was ready to proceed.
Defence counsel Kauna Penzin also told the court that the defence was prepared to proceed with the case.
After the charges were read to the defendant, Dankaka entered a plea of not guilty to both counts.
Afegbua subsequently requested a trial date to allow the prosecution to present its case. He also asked the court to order Dankaka’s remand at the Kuje Correctional Centre. The defence did not oppose the application.
Justice Ibrahim granted the request, ordering that Dankaka remain at the correctional facility pending further proceedings. The court adjourned the case until December 7, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
The allegations remain unproven, and Dankaka is presumed innocent unless and until the court establishes his guilt.
