3rd Adavize Alao Essay Competition On Privacy And Data Protection

This is to announce the 3rd edition of the Adavize Alao Essay on Privacy and Data Protection.

The competition which is open to Law students and young lawyers seeks to contribute to the field of privacy and data protection, an area of law which Adavize Alao, Lawyard’s co founder and Operations Lead showed commitment to during his lifetime.

Law Students: ‘The Relationship Between Data Protection and Other Human Rights in Nigeria’. The best essay attracts a cash prize of N100,000, free access to membership at the IAPP, and a one-month internship at TechHive Advisory.

Young Lawyers: ‘Increasing Privacy Regulation: A Catalyst or Barrier to Technology Innovation’. The best essay attracts a cash prize of N200,000, a certification kit at the IAPP, and access to membership worth $1000.

Submission of articles is within the time range of August 16 – September 16 and are to be made to contact@lawyard.org.

Prospective writers are encouraged to follow the Lawyard social media platforms for submission guidelines, and the general modus operandi of the essay competition.

Young Lawyers (1-5 years post-call)
Topic: _‘Increasing Privacy Regulation: A Catalyst or Barrier to Technology Innovation’_
Prize: N200,000 (plus IAPP certification kit + membership worth $1000)
Word Count: 2,000 Words (Footnotes inclusive)

Law Students (Law School Students Included)
Topic: _‘The Relationship Between Data Protection and other Human Rights in Nigeria.’_
Prize: N100,000 (and IAPP membership + a month internship opportunity with TechHive Advisory)
Word Count: 1,500 Words (Footnotes inclusive)

Submissions must be in Microsoft Word format (Font Size: 11, Font type: Arial, Spacing: 1.5, Alignment: Justified)

Submissions must be original, independent, unpublished works. Co-authored essays will not be considered.

Submissions will be judged blind

The decision of the judging panel is final.

The names of the winners of the competition and their essays may be published by Lawyard after all participants have been contacted and notified of the decision by the judging panel.

The winners may be asked to provide an additional biographical note, providing brief details of their legal studies and future professional appointments.

Lawyard holds the right to publish any selection of the papers submitted to this competition, including, but not limited to, the winning paper (either the full texts or extracts thereof) up to 18 months after the competition has ended; this includes, but is not limited to, the publication on the Lawyard website or any other Lawyard publication. In any event, the author will be indicated appropriately.
