BoG extends registration deadline for money transfer operators - Ghana

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has extended the deadline for the registration of International Money Transfer Operators (IMTOs) to 31 July 2026.
The Bank stated that the extension would provide existing operators with additional time to complete their registration and ensure their operations comply with its guidelines.
In a public notice, the Central Bank urged all IMTOs operating within the country to utilise the extended period to submit the required documentation and regularise their activities.
It cautioned that any operator failing to register by the revised deadline would be prohibited from operating in Ghana.
The BoG further indicated that any partnerships between unregistered operators and banks, specialised deposit-taking institutions, and payment service providers would be terminated after 31 July.
Such operators could be subject to further regulatory action, it stated.
This directive is applicable to all financial institutions, which are expected to adhere to the regulations and ensure compliance.
The BoG has advised operators to liaise with its Payment Systems Department for assistance throughout the registration process.
