The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Hon. Justice Kudirat Kekere‑Ekun, has formally approved the commencement of the 2025 edition of the National Judiciary Games, to be hosted in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
At a press briefing in Abuja, the National President of the National Sports Association for Judiciary (NASAJ), Sunday Noah, confirmed that preparations are complete for the biennial sporting event, which brings together judiciary staff from across the federation. He explained that Akwa Ibom was selected as host due to its peaceful environment and availability of world‑class sporting facilities.
“We have inspected all facilities, and everything is in perfect condition for the kickoff. Beyond sports, the games also provide a platform for states to showcase their cultural heritage. This year, Akwa Ibom will have the opportunity to display its rich traditions,” Noah stated.
The Judiciary Games were established in 1994 by the late Justice Mohammed Bello, then Chief Justice of Nigeria, to promote physical fitness, unity, and camaraderie among judiciary workers. The maiden edition was held in Lagos in 1995, won by the Ministry of Justice/Attorney‑General’s team, while the most recent edition took place in Minna, Niger State.
Noah emphasised that the tournament has consistently been conducted with the decorum befitting members of the judiciary, while also serving as a platform to identify sporting talent within the judicial sector.
“We are not only known for carrying files,” he remarked humorously, “but we also have skillful sportsmen and women in the judiciary.”
The 2025 games, he revealed, will feature over 10,000 athletes competing in various sports, including table tennis, handball, swimming, and other events. The competition will run from November 20 to December 3, 2025, with participants drawn from judiciary staff across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, representing 12 affiliates.
