NIHOTOUR Launches Hospitality Tribunal, Names Ishaq Bello as Chairman

The National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) has appointed retired Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Justice Ishaq Usman Bello, as Chairman of the newly established Hospitality, Tourism & Travel Tribunal (HTTT).

The announcement came during the formal inauguration of the tribunal, conducted in line with Section 40 (1) and (2) of the NIHOTOUR Establishment Act. This section empowers the institute to regulate, license, and adjudicate matters within Nigeria’s hospitality, tourism, and travel industry.

The HTTT has been set up to address disputes, enforce professional standards, and handle complaints related to misconduct, licensing infractions, and consumer grievances. NIHOTOUR described the tribunal as a vital step towards promoting professionalism and accountability in the tourism sector.

Justice Bello, known for his decades of legal experience and strong ethical standing, is expected to bring credibility and integrity to the new role. Speaking at the event, NIHOTOUR Director-General Aare Abisoye Fagade said the inauguration of the HTTT “marks a new chapter for the tourism industry in Nigeria,” emphasizing that the tribunal will provide “an independent forum for fair hearing and redress.”

Other members appointed to the tribunal include: Steve Ayorinde, former Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, recognized for his work in cultural policy and media advocacy.

Alhaja Bolaji Mustapha, President of the National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies and Tourism Practitioners (NANTOP), a key figure in travel and tourism regulation.
