The Kano State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has demoted two judiciary staff members for acts of forgery and absenteeism, underscoring its firm stance against misconduct within the judicial system.
The disciplinary measures were taken during the Commission’s 84th meeting held on Friday, according to a statement issued Monday by the spokesperson of the Kano State Judiciary, Baba Jibo-Ibrahim.
The Commission announced the demotion of Adamu Salisu, a Registrar at High Court No. 13, after he was found guilty of forging affidavits of service. Investigations revealed that Salisu had falsified the signature of a court bailiff and unlawfully signed documents in the capacity of a Commissioner for Oaths.
He admitted to the offence and was found liable for gross misconduct. Consequently, Salisu was demoted from Grade Level 13 to Grade Level 12 and relieved of his duties as Registrar of High Court No. 13. He also received a stern warning, with the Commission cautioning that any repeat offence could result in criminal prosecution.
In a separate case, the Commission took disciplinary action against Yusuf Ayuba, a Clerical Assistant assigned to High Court No. 8, Miller Road. Ayuba was found guilty of gross misconduct after abandoning his duty post for four months without any justification. He was demoted from Grade Level 5 to Grade Level 4 following an investigation by the Judiciary Public Complaints Committee (JPCC).
Spokesperson Jibo-Ibrahim emphasized that the actions align with the Commission’s statutory responsibility to promote discipline, accountability, and ethical standards within the judiciary.
“These sanctions are designed to serve as a deterrent to other staff and to curb absenteeism across the judicial sector,” he stated.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the integrity of the judiciary in Kano State, pledging to enforce professionalism at all levels.
“It remains resolute in its zero-tolerance policy on misconduct and continues to prioritize discipline and ethical conduct among judicial personnel,” the statement concluded.
