FG Declares Friday, Sept 5, Public Holiday for Eid-ul-Mawlid

The Federal Government has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday in commemoration of Eid-ul-Mawlid, the annual celebration marking the birth of the Holy Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon Him). The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who extended warm felicitations to the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria and across the globe.

In a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, the Minister urged the faithful to emulate the Prophet’s virtues of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion. He emphasised that these values remain indispensable to the building of a united, prosperous, and progressive nation.

Tunji-Ojo further called on Nigerians of all religious backgrounds to seize the occasion to pray for the peace, security, and stability of the country. He encouraged citizens to support the Federal Government’s initiatives aimed at fostering national harmony, sustainable development, and social cohesion.

Highlighting the significance of the celebration, the Minister noted that Eid-ul-Mawlid presents an opportunity to strengthen bonds of brotherhood, promote peaceful coexistence, and uphold the Prophet’s teachings of mutual respect and selfless service to humanity. He stressed that such principles are vital to the nation’s collective progress.

The Minister also charged Nigerians to remain law-abiding, security-conscious, and supportive of government policies designed to safeguard the welfare of all. He concluded by wishing the Muslim faithful a joyous, peaceful, and spiritually fulfilling Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration.
