ECNBA Issues Notice No. 2 on NBA 2026 National Elections, Invites Letters of Expression of Interest

The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) has issued Notice No. 2 regarding the forthcoming NBA 2026 Elections for National Officers of the Association, formally calling for Letters of Expression of Interest from aspirants seeking to contest various national offices.

The notice, issued pursuant to the NBA Constitution 2015 (as amended in 2025 and duly registered and certified by the Corporate Affairs Commission on January 26, 2026), follows the earlier preliminary notice of election (ECNBA Notice No. 1) dated January 17, 2026.

According to the Committee, the zoning classification for the 2026 NBA National Elections in respect of National Officers is as follows:

* President – Western Zone

* First Vice President – Western Zone

* Second Vice President – Northern Zone

* Third Vice President – Eastern Zone

* General Secretary – Eastern Zone

* Assistant General Secretary – Not Zoned

* Treasurer – Not Zoned

* Welfare Secretary – Not Zoned

* Publicity Secretary – Not Zoned

* Assistant Publicity Secretary – Not Zoned

The notice outlines detailed eligibility requirements for each office, including minimum post-call years, prior service in the National Executive Council (NEC) or Branch/Section/Forum Executive Committees, and confirmation of payment of practicing fees and Branch dues for three consecutive years inclusive of the election year (2026).

All interested aspirants are required to submit a Letter of Expression of Interest on or before February 20, 2026. The letter must be written on the applicant’s letterheaded paper, include telephone numbers (including WhatsApp) and email addresses, and must be personally signed by the applicant.

The Letter must contain:

Full names as enrolled in the Supreme Court Rolls and current names (if different);

Supreme Court Enrollment Number;

Year of Call to the Bar;

Branch Name;

Confirmation of NEC membership and/or Branch Executive/Section/Forum membership as prescribed by the NBA Constitution;

Confirmation of payment of practicing fees and Branch dues as prescribed.

Applicants are also required to attach a clear, clean, legible, current, and valid photo identification (ECOWAS/Nigerian Passport data page, NIN Slip/Card, Permanent Voter’s Card, or Driver’s License), alongside other supporting documents.

The Committee emphasized that all submissions must be received not later than 5:00 p.m. on February 20, 2026, in strict compliance with the requirements contained in Notice No. 2.
