Court to Rule on Ex‑Governor Aliyu, Nasko’s No‑Case Submission May 8

Justice Yeliam Bogoro of the Federal High Court, Lagos, on Thursday, February 26, 2026, adjourned ruling on the no‑case submissions filed by former Niger State Governor, Muazu Babangida Aliyu, and his co‑defendant, Umar Muhammed Nasko, to May 8, 2026.

At the proceedings, the court took final addresses from the prosecution counsel, Faruk Abdallah, as well as defence counsel Y. Kalamu for the first defendant and Mamman Mike Osuman, SAN, for the second defendant.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting Aliyu and Nasko, a former Commissioner for Environment, Parks, Gardens and Forest Resources, on an eight‑count charge bordering on conspiracy, money laundering, and unlawful conversion of ecological funds amounting to ₦1.5 billion.

In response to the defendants’ no‑case submissions, the prosecution informed the court that it had filed its reply on February 5, 2026. The prosecution recalled that the defendants were arraigned on April 28, 2017, and that in the course of trial, 11 witnesses were called and several exhibits tendered. Both defendants subsequently filed written no‑case submissions in late 2025.
