Court Convicts Ex‑Deputy Director for Age Falsification, Fraudulent Salary Claims
The Kwara State High Court, sitting in Ilorin, has convicted a retired Deputy Director of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Dare Adebowale Oladapo, for falsifying his age in order to unlawfully extend his years of service and for fraudulently drawing salaries beyond his lawful retirement date.
In a judgment delivered on 7 October 2025, Justice Ibrahim Yusuf held that the defendant was guilty of age falsification and corrupt self‑enrichment, offences contrary to Sections 25(1)(a) and 25(1)(b) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.
The conviction followed a petition filed by Ilorin‑based legal practitioner, F. F. Ikebundu, which triggered an investigation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The investigation revealed that Mr. Oladapo had altered his official records to reflect 11 November 1964 as his date of birth, instead of his actual date of birth, 11 November 1959, thereby unlawfully prolonging his tenure in public service.
During trial, ICPC prosecutors Kalu Ugbo and Zainab Moshood established that the convict fraudulently received a total of ₦1,233,258.95 in salaries and allowances between December 2019 and April 2020, a period covering four months after he was statutorily due for retirement.
