The Adamawa State High Court IV, sitting in Yola, has adjourned proceedings in the suit challenging the establishment of the Fufore Emirate to 4 December 2025, for continuation of the defence’s case.
Presiding Judge, Hon. Justice Musa Usman, fixed the date after taking evidence from one defence witness. The court granted an adjournment at the instance of defence counsel, who explained that their next key witness was bereaved and therefore unable to attend.
Speaking to journalists after the sitting, Manga Nurudeen, SAN, counsel to the plaintiffs, acknowledged that the loss of a relative constitutes sufficient grounds for a witness’s absence. He expressed confidence that the matter is nearing conclusion, noting:
“Had the Attorney General presented his witness today, we would already be at the stage of final addresses and judgment. By 4 December, God willing, we should be ready to adjourn for addresses and judgment.”
The suit, instituted in March 2025, arose from the creation of the Fufore Emirate in December 2024, carved out of the Adamawa Emirate.
Three distinguished titleholders of the Adamawa Emirate—Musa Halilu Ahmed (Dujima Adamawa), Alhaji Mustapha Dahiru Mustapha (Yeriman Adamawa), and Alhaji Mustapha Ahmad (Sarkin Noma Adamawa)—approached the court seeking a declaration that the new emirate was unlawfully established.
At the previous sitting, the plaintiffs closed their case after presenting four witnesses, including eminent historian Professor Alkasum Abba. Their testimonies were vigorously tested under cross‑examination by defence counsel, Chief Lenon Zedon and Barr. Afraimu Jingi.
The defendants in the matter are the Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri; the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Afraimu Jingi; and the Emir of Fufore, Muhammad Sani Ribadu.
