A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has ordered the Inspector-General of Police to do everything within his power to produce five retired senior police officers for arraignment over allegations of age falsification and forgery.
The court was disappointed that the accused persons were absent despite being served with the charge.
Justice Yusuf Halilu ordered the prosecution counsel to ensure the defendants attend court on the next adjourned date for arraignment.
“You are the prosecutor. You should do all within your powers to ensure that the defendants attend court on the next adjourned date for the purpose of arraignment,” Halilu said.
The prosecution counsel, Rimamsomte Ezekiel, expressed disappointment over the absence of the defendants in court despite being served with the charge.
“They were all served with the charge last week Thursday. They were all informed to be in court today, but none of them is in court,” Ezekiel said.
