Lagos State is intensifying its regulatory oversight of telecommunications infrastructure, with the Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA) issuing a directive for Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to immediately rectify and reorganise their network installations in three key areas. This proactive measure precedes planned enforcement operations aimed at ensuring compliance with infrastructure maintenance standards.
The directive, communicated via a notice dated 2 November 2026, specifically targets ISPs operating within Ilasan in Ikate, Allen Avenue in Ikeja, and the Custom Office area adjacent to Toyin Street, also in Ikeja. LASIMRA has instructed these providers to ensure their telecommunications infrastructure, encompassing cables and all associated installations, is meticulously arranged, securely fastened, and free from obstructions and environmental nuisques. This initiative underscores the agency’s commitment to enhancing the organisation and upkeep of vital telecommunications infrastructure across the bustling metropolis.
Enforcement operations are slated to commence on Monday, 9 November 2026. Affected service providers are strongly advised to complete the mandated cleanup and reorganisation efforts before this deadline to avert potential sanctions. LASIMRA has emphasised the need for immediate attention and full cooperation from all operators in adhering to these requirements. The notice was formally signed by Prince Oyekanmi Elegushi, General Manager of LASIMRA, signalling a firm stance on regulatory compliance within the sector.
This directive carries significant implications for legal counsel, compliance officers, and corporate executives within the telecommunications and related industries. The impending enforcement action highlights the critical importance of maintaining compliant and orderly infrastructure, directly impacting operational continuity and potential liabilities. Investors and business leaders should also note this development as it signals a more stringent regulatory environment for telecommunications infrastructure management in Lagos, potentially influencing investment decisions and operational strategies. The focus on specific high-traffic commercial and residential zones suggests a targeted approach to address persistent issues of infrastructure disarray, which can impede service delivery and pose safety concerns.
