87-Year-Old Dahiru Garba Arraigned for Attacking Adamawa Judge
An 87-year-old man, Dahiru Garba, appeared before the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Yola, Adamawa State. Prosecutors charged him with attacking an Area Court judge with a cutlass and severing the judge’s hand.
Garba, a resident of Korawa village in Fufore Local Government Area, allegedly attacked Hon. Dauda Hamman, Presiding Judge of Mayo-Ine Area Court, on August 31, 2026. The attack occurred during a case involving Garba and Ismail Yusuf.
According to Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer SP Suleiman Nguroje, Garba repeatedly struck the judge’s hand with a cutlass, causing serious injuries. Police arrested Garba immediately after the incident.
Nguroje stated that the Divisional Police Headquarters in Fufore handled the case first. Officials then transferred it to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yola on September 4 for further investigation and prosecution.
After completing the investigation, authorities arraigned Garba before Chief Magistrate Court I in Yola on September 8, 2026. Chief Magistrate Ismail Bello Shelleng presided over the arraignment.
Prosecutors charged Garba with causing grievous hurt under Section 219 of the Penal Code Law of Adamawa State, 2018. ASP Zakka Musa prosecuted the case on behalf of Commissioner of Police Kabir Umar Hassan.
Nguroje reported that Garba pleaded guilty after officials read and explained the charge to him. Garba attributed his actions to the devil’s influence and expressed deep remorse.
The court ordered Garba to be remanded at the Yola Correctional Facility pending further hearing.
Nguroje conveyed assurances from Commissioner of Police Kabir Umar Hassan that authorities would pursue diligent prosecution of the case to ensure justice.
