Yola Magistrate Court Remands Islamic Scholar Over Alleged Defilement of Two Minors
A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Yola has ordered the remand of an Islamic scholar in Adamawa State who is facing allegations of defiling two young girls at the school where he teaches.
The police arraigned 38-year-old Sagir Sani, a teacher at an Islamic school in Numan Local Government Area, on charges of indecent treatment, sexual assault, and defilement involving two girls aged nine and eight.
Police prosecutor ASP Zakka Musa informed the court that Sani allegedly lured the minors behind the classrooms and defiled them on the school premises.
According to the prosecution, the mother of one of the victims reported the incident to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Numan on August 7, 2026, alleging that the defendant defiled the minors during Quranic recitation classes.
During his arraignment on Monday, Sani pleaded not guilty after the court explained the contents of the First Information Report.
The prosecuting officer subsequently requested an adjournment to provide time for the prosecution to transmit the case diary to the State Department of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
The court granted the application and ordered that Sani be remanded.
