Five Police Officers Arraigned in Asaba High Court Over Death of Musician OG Millan

Five police officers accused in connection with the death of Oghenemine Ogidi, popularly known as OG Millan, have been arraigned before High Court 5 sitting in Asaba, Delta State.

The defendants include Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) Usman Nuhu (42), Onoloko Dauroupamo (47), Okoh Kelechi (46), Inspector Goodluck Kingsley (42), and Inspector Omonigho Ahweyevu (41). The case, registered as Suit No. THC/ASB/CR/M/66C/2026, was heard before Justice Marshal Onome Umukoro.

Following the proceedings, the court ordered that the accused officers be remanded at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre pending further legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The matter was adjourned until June 15, 2026, for further arraignment.

Access to the courtroom was restricted during the hearing, and journalists were reportedly not allowed to observe the proceedings.

Family members of the late 28-year-old musician have expressed frustration over what they describe as a lack of communication from the authorities handling the case. They claim they have not been properly briefed on developments, nor have they been shown the autopsy report.

Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu, who commented after the hearing, said the court appearance of the officers marked a significant step in the pursuit of justice. He noted that the suspects remain in custody while the DPP reviews the case file.

He also raised concerns about the family’s exclusion from key updates in the investigation and proceedings.

A relative of the deceased, Emuobor Alex, said the family only became aware of the court sitting through unofficial channels and arrived in Asaba after the proceedings had already ended.

Similarly, the deceased’s elder brother, Victory Ogidi, criticized the lack of official communication, stating that the family had been relying on social media for updates. He urged relevant authorities, including the Delta State Ministry of Justice and the Nigeria Police Force, to ensure proper and consistent communication with the family.

The family maintained that they are not seeking preferential treatment, but simply want to be adequately informed about the progress of the case.
