EFCC Arraigns Abuja Businessman Over ₦16.6m Dud Cheque

The Abuja Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Mr. Oluwabusayo Ekundayo, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Orion Surgical and Satures, before Justice A.S. Adepoju of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Gwagwalada, on a two‑count charge bordering on issuance of dud cheques amounting to ₦16,650,000.

According to the charge, Ekundayo allegedly obtained ₦4.65 million and ₦12 million respectively from one Clara Onwumere by issuing cheques which, upon presentation, were dishonoured for lack of sufficient funds. The prosecution maintained that his conduct contravenes Section 1(1)(b) of the Dishonoured Cheques (Offences) Act, 2004, and is punishable under Section 1(1)(b)(i) of the same Act.

Ekundayo pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him. Prosecution counsel, Joyce Audu, thereafter applied for a trial date. The matter has since proceeded to trial before the FCT High Court.
