The Federal Government has formally declared Friday, April 3 (Good Friday) and Monday, April 6 (Easter Monday) as public holidays to mark the 2026 Easter celebrations.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji‑Ojo.
The Minister congratulated Christians in Nigeria and the diaspora, urging citizens to reflect on the virtues of selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance, and love, as exemplified by the teachings of Jesus Christ. He further emphasized the importance of tolerance and community values in sustaining national unity.
Dr. Tunji‑Ojo reiterated that government decisions remain focused on national rebirth, economic growth, and shared prosperity, while wishing all Christians a peaceful and joyous Easter celebration.
