Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has approved the appointment of Tobechukwu Nweke, SAN, as the new Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Anambra State, with immediate effect. The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Governor’s Press Secretary, Mr. Christian Aburime.
Nweke, a native of Nsugbe in Anambra East LGA, is a distinguished Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Chartered Arbitrator. He obtained his LL.B from the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus in 2008, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in November 2009. He holds an LL.M from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University.
His professional trajectory includes practice at the law firm of Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN & Co., where he served during his NYSC and rose to become Managing Solicitor in 2013. He has handled landmark cases that have contributed to Nigerian jurisprudence. In recognition of his excellence, he was elevated to the rank of SAN in September 2024 at the age of 39, making him the youngest SAN from Anambra State and among the youngest in Nigeria.
Beyond litigation, Nweke has distinguished himself in arbitration, attaining Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, UK, in 2023. He has also undertaken advanced studies at Oxford University (Project Risk Management, 2025) and Harvard University (Contract Law, 2026).
Prior to his new role, he served as Special Adviser to Governor Soludo on Legal Matters since 2022. His appointment marks the first time in 20 years that a Senior Advocate of Nigeria will occupy the office of Attorney General in Anambra State, the last being Nnoruka Udechukwu, SAN, during the Ngige administration (2003–2006).
Governor Soludo also announced other key appointments, including Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake as Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Ngozi Iwouno as Head of Service, Barr. Joachin Peters Anetoh as Principal Secretary, and Dr. Ben Nwankwo as Chief of Staff. Additional appointments span protocol, advisory, and innovation roles, reflecting a broad restructuring of the administration.
