NJI Seeks Collaboration with Sports Institute on Capacity Building and Sports Development

The Administrator of the National Judicial Institute (NJI), Hon. Justice B.A. Adejumo, OFR, has paid a courtesy visit to the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Rt Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, on collaboration for institutional capacity building and Sports development.

During the visit, Justice Adejumo commended the NIS for its remarkable achievements in producing coaches, sports managers, and administrators. Justice Adejumo highlighted the Sport Institute’s role in distributing essential sports equipment to local clubs and teams, thereby fostering the development of grassroots talent across the country.

The Administrator expressed NJI’s interest in strengthening partnerships and collaborations with the NIS in key areas such as capacity building, sports development initiatives, specialized training programmes, revitalization of the NJI Gymnasium, and the construction of a modern sports complex within the NJI.

In his response, the DG/CEO of NIS, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu expressed deep appreciation to Hon. Justice Adejumo for the visit, his longstanding judicial legacy, and his advocacy in public interest litigation. Comrade Philip Shaibu acknowledged that although the NIS was established in 1974 have been moribund for over 25 years, it is now undergoing rapid transformation, beginning with staff recruitment, re-orientation, and the development of a comprehensive 10-year strategic plan. He assured that the NIS is fully committed to partnering with the NJI to advance sports development, the revitalisation of the Gymnasium, and the training of sport manpower, particularly physiotherapists.

According to the statement signed by the Institute Head of Information and Public Relations, Mr Kolade Umoru, the historic visit marks a significant step towards strengthening institutional collaboration between the NJI and NIS, aimed at enhancing capacity building and promoting excellence in sports administration and development in the National Judicial Institute.
