The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the trial of former Attorney‑General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and his son, Abdulaziz, in the terrorism financing and unlawful firearms possession case.
At Tuesday’s proceedings before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, prosecution counsel Akinlolu Kehinde, SAN, informed the court that he had only just been assigned to take over the matter and required time to interface with witnesses. Defence counsel Shuaibu Arua, SAN, did not oppose the application.
In a brief ruling, Justice Abdulmalik granted the request and adjourned the trial to April 15 and 16.
The Department of State Services (DSS) had earlier arraigned Malami and his son on a five‑count charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/63/2026. The charges include alleged terrorism financing, contrary to Section 26(2) of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, and unlawful possession of firearms under the Firearms Act, 2004.
The DSS alleged that Malami, during his tenure as Attorney‑General, failed to prosecute suspected terrorism financiers whose case files were forwarded to him, thereby abetting terrorism financing. Both defendants were also accused of possessing a Sturm Magnum firearm, live cartridges, and expended ammunition at their residence in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.
