On February 25, Justice Joseph Olubunmi Oyewole will formally take the oath of office as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
According to a statement issued by Dr. Festus Akande, Director of Information and Public Relations of the Supreme Court, the ceremony will be conducted by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, at Courtroom Two, Supreme Court Complex, Abuja, by 2:00 p.m.
Justice Oyewole’s elevation comes at a time when the apex court has witnessed a reduction in its bench due to recent retirements. Prior to his appointment, he served as a Justice of the Court of Appeal and was the Presiding Justice of the Enugu Division.
The statement emphasized that his appointment reflects the judiciary’s commitment to strengthening the bench with seasoned jurists, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring the delivery of justice with integrity and impartiality. It further noted that Justice Oyewole brings a wealth of legal expertise and judicial experience that will enhance the Supreme Court’s capacity to render fair and timely judgments.
The inauguration, the statement added, marks another step in rejuvenating the judiciary and reinforcing its dedication to justice, fairness, and judicial independence for the benefit of Nigerians.
