UK Court Sentences Nigerian National to Life Imprisonment for Murder of Former Partner

The Nottingham Crown Court in England has convicted and sentenced Mr. Adedapo Adegbola, a 40‑year‑old Nigerian national, to life imprisonment for the murder of his former girlfriend, Ms. Steph Irons, a 23‑year‑old university student. The offence occurred at her residence in Mapperley, Nottingham, on 21 October 2025.

According to the prosecution, Adegbola became fixated on the deceased following the breakdown of their brief relationship. Evidence before the court revealed that he procured knives online, travelled by taxi to her home, and attacked her as she stepped outside, before forcing entry and inflicting multiple stab wounds.

The alarm was raised when colleagues of the deceased received suspicious messages from her phone. Police officers later discovered her body in the living room, where she was pronounced dead.

Investigators established that Adegbola fled the scene, discarding bloodstained clothing and other incriminating items along his route through Mapperley and Carlton, before moving across Mansfield, Worksop, Sheffield, and Hull. He eventually surrendered to law enforcement but declined to make statements during interrogation. His movements were reconstructed through forensic and circumstantial evidence.

In sentencing, the presiding judge imposed a life term, with a minimum custodial period of 25 years before eligibility for parole.
