A Kano State High Court has convicted and sentenced Najibullah Alkasim, aged 22, to death by hanging for the murder of his neighbour, Isyaku Ya’u, during a dispute in January 2024.
Delivering judgment, Justice Farida Dabappa held that the prosecution, led by Lamido Abba‑Sorondinki, had proved the charge of culpable homicide beyond reasonable doubt. The court found that Alkasim intentionally caused the death of the deceased by stabbing him in the chest with a screwdriver. Justice Dabappa accordingly pronounced the sentence of death by hanging.
Similarly, the Kebbi State High Court, Birnin Kebbi Division, presided over by Justice Hassan Shehu Kuwa, sentenced Bello Musa (alias Katuka), aged 40, to death by hanging for culpable homicide, and imposed an additional five‑year term of imprisonment for cheating.
Musa was arraigned on 22 November 2024 on a three‑count charge of criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, and cheating, contrary to Sections 60(b), 191(b), and 308 of the Kebbi State Penal Code Law, 2021. The prosecution, led by Barrister Zainab Muhammad Jabbo, established that Musa poisoned the drink of Shamsiyya Usman (aged 31) in a Birnin Kebbi hotel, leaving her lifeless body in the room.
The court relied on eight witnesses and four exhibits, including the defendant’s confessional statements, to reach its verdict.
