Forgery Trial: Court Orders Defence to Produce CTC in Maiyegun Case

The Chief Magistrates’ Court, Tinubu, Lagos, on Tuesday adjourned the ongoing forgery trial of Mujitabat Maiyegun to 19 December 2025, directing the defence to produce a Certified True Copy (CTC) of proceedings they claim are pending before the Ebute Metta Magistrates’ Court.

Defence counsel, Ayodeji Adewale, argued that the defendant had previously been arraigned before Courts 2 and 7 in Ebute Metta on similar charges, and therefore sought to rely on those proceedings.

The prosecutor, ASP Ishola Samuel, countered that the defence’s claim was misleading. He maintained that no matter was currently pending at Ebute Metta, stressing that earlier proceedings there had already been struck out. Samuel accused the defence of employing delay tactics, noting that the prosecution’s principal witness had travelled from Abuja specifically for the hearing.

Chief Magistrate O.O. Olatunji granted the adjournment but ordered the defence to tender the alleged CTC on the next adjourned date.

Maiyegun is facing a three‑count charge alleging conspiracy with persons at large to forge a deed of assignment relating to Maiyegun Family Land, Lekki Peninsula, belonging to Chief Cyril Okoye.
