Court Remands ‘Olori Eso’ and Two Others Over Mushin Murder, Cultism Allegations

On Monday, Justice Oyindamola Ogala of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, ordered the remand of three defendants: Wasiu Akinwande (alias Olori Eso), Qudus Egbere, and Sola Tomiwa—over their alleged involvement in the murder of two men during a violent clash in Mushin, Lagos.

The defendants were arraigned on a five‑count charge filed by the Lagos State Government, bordering on conspiracy to commit murder, murder, and membership of an unlawful society.

At arraignment, state prosecutor A.O. Azeez informed the court that an amended charge had been filed earlier that morning. Defence counsel Olanrewaju Ajanaku and M.D. Obadeyi announced their appearances.

The prosecution alleged that the defendants, alongside others still at large, conspired to kill Bolanle Yusuf and Yusuf Ramadan during a clash on 31 July 2024 at Moshalashi Street, Mushin. The victims were reportedly attacked with machetes and firearms, resulting in their deaths.

It was further alleged that Qudus Egbere and Sola Tomiwa are members of the Eiye Confraternity, an unlawful society. According to the prosecution, the offences contravene Sections 223, 233, and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, as well as Section 2(3)(a) of the Unlawful Societies and Cultism (Prohibition) Law of Lagos State, 2021.

The defendants pleaded not guilty. Counsel for the second defendant made an oral application for continuation of administrative bail, but Justice Ogala directed that a formal bail application be filed. The matter was adjourned to 19 January 2026 for trial, with the defendants remanded in custody pending further proceedings.

The first defendant, Wasiu Akinwande (Olori Eso), had earlier been remanded by the Ogba Magistrate Court on 5 August 2025 by Magistrate Mobolaji Tanimola, in Kirikiri Correctional Centre, pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions. He faced an 11‑count charge including conspiracy, murder, attempted murder, unlawful possession of firearms, membership of an unlawful society, grievous bodily harm, threat to life, and possession of dangerous weapons.
