Court Restrains Moghalu from Parading Self as Labour Party Governorship Candidate for 2025 Anambra Election

The Federal High Court sitting in Enugu has issued an interim order restraining Chief George Moghalu from parading himself as the governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the forthcoming Anambra State Governorship Election scheduled for 8 November 2025.

The order, made in Suit No. FHC/AWK/CS/226/2025, arose from two motions ex parte filed by members of the Interim State Executive Committee of the Labour Party in Anambra State, led by Okoye Peter Chukwunulu and Jerry Nnubia. The applicants sought urgent judicial intervention to prevent what they described as an unlawful claim to the party’s ticket.

In their application, the plaintiffs urged the court to restrain the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising Moghalu, who they alleged emerged from a faction of the party loyal to the removed National Chairman, Julius Abure. They argued that such recognition would contravene existing judicial pronouncements on the party’s leadership crisis.

Presided over by Justice Nwaukwa Ukamaka, the court granted the interim relief, holding that Moghalu — the 4th defendant in the suit — is barred from further parading himself as LP’s candidate in accordance with the Supreme Court’s judgment of 4 April 2025, which removed Abure from office.

The apex court had earlier affirmed Senator Nenadi Usman as head of the party’s National Caretaker Committee and declared invalid any nominations or lists issued under Abure’s leadership.
