Gov Abiodun Swears in Three New Judges, Charges Them to Uphold Justice and Shield the Oppressed
On Monday, Governor Dapo Abiodun formally swore in three new judges to the Ogun State judiciary, charging them to serve as symbols of justice, shields against oppression, and living proof that right will always prevail over might.
The appointees are Justice Julius Ojikutu, formerly Chief Registrar of the Ogun State High Court in Abeokuta; Justice Adejumoke Adewole, ex-Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development; and Justice Oluyemisi Adebo, who served as Secretary of the Ogun State Judicial Service Commission.
Abiodun urged the new justices to make fairness, integrity, and justice their guiding light, stressing that Nigeria’s democracy endures because judges of conscience stand firm in defending the ethos of democratic institutions without fear or favour.
He advised them to let the fear of God, their own conscience, and the Constitution of Nigeria guide every judgment, noting that the nation needs jurists who are not only learned in the law but also upright in character and resolute in conduct.
Charging them to remain fair, firm, and courageous in the face of external pressures, the governor reminded the judges to always place the interests of justice and the people above personal considerations.
“This is not merely a legal obligation; it is a moral one,” Abiodun said, emphasizing that true justice must be felt concretely by every citizen, regardless of tribe, religion, political affiliation, or economic status.
He closed by reaffirming his administration’s commitment to a responsible and responsive judiciary, pledging to respect court rulings, supply necessary resources, and enhance processes that guarantee the swift and fair dispensation of justice.
